How the apostille process works:
An apostille is an official certification that authenticates a public document for use in another country. Here's how the process works:
Identify your documents
1
Determine which documents need to be apostilled and confirm they are accepted for apostille certification. Common documents include birth certificates, marriage certificates, powers of attorney, and notarized legal documents. Requirements vary by destination country, so we can help you confirm what's needed.
Notarize your documents (if required)
2
Some documents must be notarized before they can receive an apostille. If your document requires notarization first, we save you time and coordination by handling both.
Submit through our secure portal
3
Upload your documents through our secure portal. We reduce the risk of rejection or delay by reviewing them in advance to confirm they are complete and correctly prepared before submission.
We file with the state
4
We submit your documents to the Washington Secretary of State's office, which is authorized to issue apostilles for Washington State documents. Processing time through the state is typically 4–6 weeks. We stay in communication throughout so you're never left wondering about status.
Receive your apostilled documents
5
Your completed documents are returned to you ready for international use and are accepted in any of the 124 Hague Convention member countries.
Do I need an apostille or an embassy legalization?
If the destination country is a member of the Hague Convention, an apostille is all you need. If not, a different authentication process called embassy legalization is required. Not sure which applies to your situation? Contact us and we'll point you in the right direction.
